SurfTech 4253 B4C / MoS2 Coating

Boron carbide with molybdenum disulfide. Gray / silver finish.

A multi-layer film that pairs a boron carbide structure with a molybdenum disulfide lubricating phase. Hard underneath, slippery on the surface, and interlaced so the behavior stays the same as the film wears.

Boron carbide with molybdenum disulfide

The carbide phase carries the contact load. The disulfide phase shears in preference to the joint and keeps the coefficient of friction down. Because SurfTech interlaces the two rather than stacking them, a worn film exposes the same combination of materials as a new one.

  • Hard substructure carries the load
  • Lubricating phase drops friction and adhesive wear
  • Runs where flood coolant is restricted
  • Interlaced layers keep performance stable as the film wears
